Some people didn't care for Leslie during his comedic years. However, none of that was his fault. He just worked with hack writers and equally hacked directors who had no idea how to use him effectively. They didn't fully realize that he works best at doing dead pan, that is saying the most absurd things with a straight face. He was not an "anything for a laugh" type of clown which is what he was used as in his worst movies (Mr. Magoo, Surf Ninjas, etc.)
He was definitely one of the greats, and (a bonus) was born in my home town. WOO HOO!! He will be missed.
david-- you're absolutely right. why he agreed to do all those movies i don't know, but he was clearly at his best when writers/ directors knew what kind of material he was best suited to.

This is one of the best Leslie Nielson caricatures I have seen. I love the gag that you threw in there with the hands.
Thanks a lot, Dan!
